Sleeper Sofas – Tacky No More

Remember when you visited grandma and slept on that pull-out sofa that had a metal bar across the
center? No matter how you turned over, that bar was there . . . all night long. Today’s sleeper sofas tell
a different story. Many fold down easily so that you are sleeping on the sofa surface. Others pull out
from underneath the base. Most importantly – they are decoratively attractive.

Here is one covered in genuine leather that features a power recliner chair and built-in blue tooth audio
system along with a pull-out queen bed.

Before you choose, think about how often your sleeper will be used.  If it’s going to be slept on many nights during the year, focus on the comfort of the “sleep” vs. the comfort of the “sit”.  Make sure you choose one that is easy to fold out and that you have plenty of room to comfortably walk around the bed when it’s extended.  Here is one that will fit elegantly in a small space.   It also offers plenty of storage for extra blankets and pillows.

Today’s sleepers don’t have to be expensive either.  The modern “futon” comes in at less than $500 and features some great looks – there are plenty available in trendy mid-century modern styles.

The sectional sleeper is a great choice if you want to sit comfortably and have a fairly large space to do it.  It’s wonderful to have a chaise for putting your feet up but it also provides a large sleeping area for guests.  On all these fold-out sofas, we recommend a memory foam topper for softer comfort and for leveling out any seams in the sleeping surface.

For a really large space, choose a super-duper sectional with chaise, storage and substantial sleeping space.  Be sure to measure doors and hallways to ensure that you can fit this in your space.

And here’s my favorite – a traditional looking sofa that folds out easily and will fit in almost any-sized room.  Just love the elegant tufting on this one.

And don’t forget the day bed option.  You can have a twin, full or queen day bed with a trundle that rolls out. With a day bed, your guests can sleep on an actual mattress with no seams.  Be sure to decorate your day bed with lots of pillows to give it a decorator look.
